The Institute of Laboratory Medicine - SydPath, is a fully accredited NATA/RCPA registered laboratory, providing a wide range of teaching hospital pathology services to the St Vincent's campus and beyond. As a vital component of the St Vincent's campus, SydPath is committed to its role as a major teaching hospital pathology service, and to its motto of:

"Excellence in Service, Excellence in Science".

SydPath offers a comprehensive range of diagnostic laboratory services covering the disciplines of anatomical pathology, chemical pathology, clinical pharmacology and toxicology, haematology and transfusion medicine, molecular medicine, microbiology and immunopathology. Our laboratories also offer a comprehensive range of specialised testing services with a particular focus in the areas of endocrinology, clinical pharmacology and immunopathology. SydPath also offers specialised expertise in the fields of cytogenetics and molecular medicine. Several SydPath laboratories function as state referral laboratories and all SydPath laboratories at St. Vincent's are accredited to NATA 17025 level.

SydPath has established a long and highly successful record of providing external referral services, and was the first hospital laboratory to provide a single "one-stop-shop" pathology referral service to rural NSW. Similarly SydPath was the first teaching hospital pathology service to provide professional contract management of rural pathology laboratories. Our extensive experience in the management of external pathology operations has been augmented in recent times by the establishment of SydPath as a leading Central Laboratory for clinical drug trial testing. As part of a major international Central Laboratory alliance, SydPath manages the rapid collection and transport of pathology specimens throughout Australasia and SE Asia.

Utilisation of SydPath as a service laboratory not only ensures access to the highest standards of laboratory testing, but also provides access to the expert consultative services of the Institute's scientists, pathologists and clinical academics. Together with SydPath's traditional commitment to service delivery, these represent the crucial elements of the:
