REQUESTING AND COLLECTING

Collection:
Collect sample just before the next dose (trough collection) at least 24

hours after initiation or dose change.

Please collect one extra EDTA tube for this test above other

requirements (this extra tube can be used for any drug measurements

performed in the Clinical Pharmacology laboratory).

Sample must be delivered to laboratory within 1 hour of collection.

Deliver to laboratory before 11am for same day service (weekdays). DO

NOT use gel collection tube.

Empiric therapy: Trough 20-80 mg/L

Directed therapy: Trough 4x MIC

Toxic Range: Not well defined. Data suggests a significant risk of

neurotoxicity with trough >125 mg/L

Note: SydPath currently measures total drug concentration (free +

protein bound) so changes in serum protein concentration will affect

interpretation

Separate plasma within 3 hours of collection and FREEZE ALL

SAMPLES. Place in SPRO freezer.
