REQUESTING AND COLLECTING

Ordering:
Measure when patient has been receiving allopurinol for at least 5 days

before sample is collected, unless toxicity is suspected. Collect sample 6

- 9 hours after the allopurinol dose.

Collection:
Gel separator tubes should not be used.
Container(s):
EDTA (5 mL purple-top) - Required

Reference Intervals:
Plasma oxypurinol concentrations of 5-15 mg/L are generally effective

in controlling hyperuricaemia.
