Collection:
Arterial blood is to be collected by MOs NOT by pathology

collectors.Transport immediately to laboratory. Ice required unless

sample transported via air tube system.

Blood gas syringe (ABG syringe) - required

GENERAL INFORMATION

Availability:
Test performed 7 days/24 hours. Results available 15 minutes after

sample arrival in laboratory.

Reference Intervals:
pH: 7.35 - 7.45

pCO2: 32 - 45mmHg

pO2: 75 - 105 mmHg

Bicarbonate: 24 - 31 mmol/L

Base Excess: -3 to +3
